thuban:demarath

Demarath is a Davir Sria in the Thuban continuity. For his equivalent in the worldbuilding continuity, see here.

Basics

  • Age:
  • Formal Name: Sriatha Tennetha Demaratha Tennetha avi'Shiaratha tel'Tanitha
  • Common Name: Demarath
  • Familiar Name: Demara
  • Mana type: Indigo

Personality

Demarath's most notable trait is his curious, inquisitive nature. Combined with a highly analytical mind, he makes a natural scientist. More often than not, finding the answer to one question will cause him to raise two or three more.

He's somewhat shy around new people, due to a combination of factors – a naturally introverted personality, low self-confidence (partially exacerbated by his physically weakened state), and the fact that outside of his family, he's not had many interactions with others of his kind. In spite of all this, he's a very proud individual – one who especially hates being reminded of his physical weaknesses.

He has some of the stereotypical Srian characteristics – notably some of the obsessive-compulsive behaviors, a perfectionist streak, and a tendency to balk at the very thought of causing disorder. On the other hand, he deviates in some places from the typical Srian – he doesn't like following orders just for the sake of following orders, especially if he doesn't understand the reason the orders are being given.

Attitude toward...

Ashernath

Demarath is extremely close to his brother – perhaps even moreso than he was to his parents. Their usual dynamic is very brotherly; Ashernath watches over his younger brother, taking on a protective and almost nurturing role, encouraging him to go out and do things – in part out of love, in part out of concern for his health and well-being. Demarath, meanwhile, often criticizes Ashernath for being overprotective and pushy, and occasionally reacts to his attention with resentment. Even then, though, he has nothing but deep love and respect for his older brother.

Davir Sria

Demarath takes some small pride in what he is – and while he certainly wishes he didn't have the marks and weaknesses of the Chosen, and that there weren't the associated social stigma, he has great respect for his brethren and for Srian ideals.

Tanith

On the other hand, the only other Davir Sria he's ever interacted with is his father. In spite of their similar interests and their common state, Demarath and Tanith never really had a strong positive emotional bond. Between the events in Demarath's first exploration of Udunshraa (see History below) and the events surrounding Tanith's death, Demarath's opinion of his father has steadily decreased to the point of loathing him.

Hzataalar Sria

The thought of becoming a Hzataalar Sria is both exciting and terrifying to Demarath. He's excited by the prospect of health and strength, though not for the reasons one might expect – primarily, he wants to live a life where his family (or what's left of it) don't feel the need to worry about his weakened condition. Of course, he's also terrified of the potential for insanity that it might bring, but he's managed to stay hopeful that it won't change him into a monster.

Shahrivrath

Much as the Hzataalar Srian ideal is appealing to Demarath, the only living example utterly terrifies him. He has quickly learned that as much respect for him Shahrivrath might occasionally appear to have, they are not friends, and his master's wrath is something to be feared. Demarath does his best to obey Shahrivrath's commands as unhesitatingly as possible – a skill he is still learning.

Davir Kaea

Aside from Davinath, Demarath hasn't ever met a Davir Kaea – and doubts that he'll ever meet another, believing them extinct. He finds the Kaean mindset odd and difficult to cope with at times, being more of a collectivist than an individualist. Nonetheless, he has a great respect for his (largely hypothetical) Chaos-aligned cousins, considering himself to have more in common with them than with non-magical Avishraans.

Davinath

Hzataalar Kaea

He used to think they were only stories told to scare hatchlings. Then he saw firsthand proof of their existence, of their strength and malice. The stories were terrifying. They don't come anywhere close to the terror of the real thing.

Chandarmaneth

As terrified as he is of the Hzataalar Kaea, he's never been directly harmed by Chandarmaneth – and given that she seems to listen to Shahrivrath and Shahrivrath doesn't want him dead, he's able to rationalize away some of his fear of her.

It doesn't make her any less terrifying, though.
