Physical
Overall description and build
Mashik is dark blue, shading to light blue on her belly and the insides of her legs. She is on the tall side for an adult female, wide-hipped, and visibly muscular, particularly in the legs; this and a heavy jawline are indicative of strong riparian ancestry, though the shape of her muzzle is more typical of littoral takmar. She is, by most standards, an attractive young woman.
Facial description
Mashik's eyes are sapphire-blue. She has a heavy jawline, and facial markings in the shape of zigzag lines run down the sides of a long, pointed muzzle; the markings are very, very dark.
Apparel and accessories
Mashik is very proud of her looks and does not go to great lengths to conceal them. In the rare social situations that demand clothing for fashion's sake, she prefers tight-fitting garments of thin fabric. Any other clothing is purely functional; an oilskin cloak against the rain, leather armor in battle, etc. She wears steel rings on her olenor. She frequently wears a simple leather rucksack on her chest when out and about, in order to carry with her anything she might need.
Mentality
Motivation
While Mashik tends to relish challenge when it comes, she does not seek it out; at heart, she is a bit of a hedonist, and feels that the point of life is to enjoy herself. Nearly everything else she does is a means to this end.
Virtues, vices, and flaws
Mashik has a sense of self-confidence big enough for two or three takmar. She is quite firmly convinced that she is an amazing person and capable of nearly anything she chooses to do - and that most of the things she wouldn't choose to do aren't worth doing. This can, depending on the situation, lead to either joyfully and recklessly charging into matters that might benefit from a more delicate touch, or ignoring those that might need to be faced.
Despite her self-absorption, she is oddly lacking in arrogance or condescension: that is to say that she is secure enough in her high self-opinion that she feels no need to emphasize it in her everyday dealings with others.
Mashik is prone to excessive drinking and to getting into competitions of strength and stamina, these being one of the few contexts in which she deliberately shows off.
Morality and philosophy
Mashik is a simple takma. Intellectualism has no place in her understanding of the world; there are simply things that matter and things that don't. The fact that this may not always coincide with the opinions of others is a minor detail.
She is a generally moral person, in that she has the following guidelines: 1. there should be no help to the powerful and such help as one can spare to the powerless, with the caveat that 2. one should punish or aid those who deserve it. She has no qualms whatsoever about violently thrashing someone who she feels has done something awful. That said, she would not in most cases consider it wrong to steal pocket change from a rich merchant, either, if she thought she could get away with it - someone with that much money can surely spare some.
She has a relaxed attitude toward the truth; she prefers not to obscure the important points about a matter unless she has to, but will happily embellish details to make them more interesting.
Religious views
While she is not exactly a nonbeliever, the gods - of whatever faith - do not loom large in Mashik's conception of the world. While she generally assumes that they exist, she sees no need to pray to them, since they have apparently decided to amply bless the world by putting her in it before calling it a day. What further benefit could one expect?
Social aptitude
Mashik is equally at home in solitude or in company. In the latter case, she tends to be loud and boisterous, and quite happy to inject herself into a conversation that strikes her fancy. Unless she feels provoked, she is generally good-humored, and will try to push those around her towards doing something fun, or at least something she would consider fun. More reserved individuals might feel that she's invading their space in one way or another.
She does not have a good handle on the concept of tact or etiquette. Though she rarely sets out to offend, she still nonetheless accomplishes it by accident, particularly in more refined company.
Likes, dislikes, and taboos
Mashik is fond of rest and relaxation, loafing, food, and drink. She likes to gamble, and nearly any activity that allows her to utilize her strength; in particular, she likes to fight for recreation (and profit). She is not very detail-oriented, and is not fond of any task that involves memorizing things she has no interest in - which includes most kinds of learning or reading. She gets easily bored of music except as a background to something else, but is fond of the more low-brow sorts of stories and theater.
Habits, quirks, and mannerisms
She is fond of cracking her knuckles for emphasis. She very rarely lowers her voice, but if she does and she is not obviously engaged in criminal activity, she is on the verge of losing her temper.
Traumas
None that are obvious to the outside observer. Despite severing contact with her parents at a very young age, she appears to have a grudge but very little actual grief.
Personal resources
Aptitudes and abilities
Mashik is fairly strong and durable, and has decent reflexes. She works well with her hands, and has surprisingly dexterous fingers. She is good at improvising stories, jokes, and humorous scenarios. She is good at keeping rhythm, and can perform simple dances, though she rarely has the inclination.
Weaknesses
Mashik generally does not do well in situations that require strategizing or thinking one's way through a problem, and indeed tends to characterize such situations as “unfair”. She does not have a good singing voice, so it's just as well that she rarely inflicts it on others.
Learned skills
While skilled carving is beyond her abilities, Mashik has acquired experience with cutting and squaring off wood and stone, and the tools required to so - adzes, axes, hammers and chisels, awls, and so on. Her time at the docks has also gained her experience with the arts required to construct hulls, such as nailing and caulking.
She is a good unarmed combatant, though her competence with weapons is more or less limited to clubs and other improvised blunt instruments.
Education
Mashik has had no formal education. Although she recognizes certain common Ǣdyihòzhn words by sight, she must attempt to sound out many others; she cannot read longer texts in any reliable fashion. She is far better with numbers, mostly because the art of avoiding being cheated in Ǣdyihòzh relies on people being able to quickly keep track of money. She has no effective geographical knowledge beyond the bounds of her native city.
She learned some basic household skills from her parents before leaving home, but most of her skills have been acquired in the workplace.
Occupation
Mashik works in the Ǣdyihòzhis shipyards as a laborer, helping construct the keels and hulls of ships. Though prize-fighting is no longer her primary occupation, she still participates in order to supplement her income.
Wealth and possessions
Mashik lives in what is, effectively, a kind of barracks or apartment block for shipyard workers. While her home is small, effectively a studio apartment, it is quite enough space for a single female with no children, and is available to her at a very reasonable price because she works at the shipyards. In a crowded city like Ǣdyihòzh, where decent lodgings are usually expensive, this is a rare deal.
Which is just as well, because a laborer's wages only stretch so far. Though not on the brink of poverty, most of her money is spent on rent, food, and particularly drink, and she does not manage to save much. Her other worldly possessions consist mostly of a few items of furniture, some tools, some utilitarian pieces of clothing, one “dressy” outfit, a rucksack, and some very simple jewelry.
Personal history
Mashik left home at a far earlier age than usual, essentially as a pre-teen. While it is normal for takma females to come into conflict with their mothers with the onset of adolescence, Mashik apparently developed an adversarial relationship with her own mother early, partly due for the latter's preference for Mashik's younger sister.
Mashik spent some time without fixed abode within the city, doing odd jobs for food and shelter along with a certain amount of thieving. She quickly became too big to easily steal without notice, but her increasing strength and relaxed attitude toward pummeling allowed her to find work as hired security, and to make money from prize-fighting. Seeking something a bit more financially reliable and less likely to run her afoul of the law, she eventually got herself hired at the shipyards.
Relationships
Family
Mashik's mother was Dyeylem, a soldier for hire; her fathers were Nṑhyil, a courier, and Ræzhel, a weaver. All three are still alive, but the only one that Mashik is willing to speak to is Ræzhel, to whom she was closest growing up. She has at least one younger sister, Virem, who is in training as a guard at the Principal Palace, who she occasionally speaks to, but mostly for for the purpose of antagonizing her. She has at least five or six brothers, who she is generally on much better terms with.
She has no husbands or children.
Other individuals
Mashik has a wide and varied circle of acquaintances, friends, enemies, and frenemies; she has met many people in the prize-fighting scene, at her various jobs, at the pub… or merely while lounging around the docks, where some of her most interesting encounters have been had.
She has had brief physical relationships with a number of males, but her towering self-perception tends to intimidate potential suitors; remarkably few males have tried to win a more permanent place in her affections, and none of those who have have interested her enough to succeed.
Affiliations
Mashik is not known for her attachments to causes or groups, except for money.
