Lords of Remaking
[ˌk͜ʘaːq.diɬ.ʃen.ˈnaj], sometimes rendered Paagdil-shennai, is the [ˈk͜ʘi.tʷʰekʰ] title of a collective deity ([ŋatʰ]) of the [ˈmaŋ.kɯ.kʰaɬ] faith. The word [ˈk͜ʘaːq.diɬ] refers to the process of melting down a metal tool to form it into a new shape and/or composition, and could be translated as reforging or recasting, but given its more metaphorical usage in this context the title as a whole is usually translated as Lords of Remaking ([ʃen.ˈnaj] is a collective noun referring to a junta or ruling council of matriarchs).
The Lords of Remaking are also known as the Many-As-One-As-Many, as Laughing with a Thousand Voices, or as That Which Switches Faces, which indicates something of their nature; they are fundamentally one deity expressed as many different persons, some of which are utterly contradictory or even inimical to each other and none of which can be considered the “real” one, for there is no such thing. The Lords are all of their aspects at once, and one at a time, and none of them, and all aspects are equal.
The Lords of Remaking represent underlying unity concealed behind apparent contradictions; they are a god of paradoxes, of transformations of body and mind, of breaking of habits, and of unique and unusual viewpoints being combined to achieve understanding. Devotees of That-Which-Switches-Faces take a keen interest in forcing themselves and others to see and experience the world in new ways, whether through debate and discussion, shocking works of art, practical jokes, riddles, travel, or altered states of mind. The use of psychedelic substances, though found in the rites of devotees of other gods of the [ˈmaŋ.kɯ.kʰaɬ] pantheon, is a particular hallmark of worshipers of the Lords, as they believe that they open the mind to higher reality as the Lords themselves experience it.
It seems likely that they may be a not-entirely-inaccurate representation of an actual being.
