Star Era
A provisional container for topics relating to collaboration with Hâlian's Safir Alliance setting.
- Approximately 185,000 cycles/1 million Earth years ago, a ship of the safir Ancestrix Fleet falls through a stable spacetime anomaly that leads to Avishraa. The ship crash-lands in northern Talmat. At this time, the current sophont species have not yet appeared and, indeed, their nonsapient ancestors have not yet diverged from each other; the contemporary representative of the lineage is a medium-sized, migratory draconiform adapted to ambush-based hunting and fishing tactics.
- The region of the crash is relatively fertile and climatically hospitable, but poor in technologically useful minerals, and the severity of the crash is costly both to the supply of high technology and the expertise needed to build and maintain it. An ad hoc colony forms, but over the following ten to twenty thousand cycles, the existing hi-tech artifacts fail one by one and cannot be replaced.
- The safir territory is bordered to the south by rainforests composed in large part of psionically active trees. Together they form a very large, slow gestalt consciousness (or continuum of consciousnesses), sentient and possibly sapient but non-sophont. Though there is some overlap with the northernmost edges of the gestalt's range, the safir tend to avoid settlement further south, as the gestalt is easily disturbed by land clearance and other landscape modification. On the whole, the gestalt is on friendly terms with the safir in modern times.
- Within the last 5-10 cycles, the takmar have formed a very small area of settlement on the southwestern coast of Talmat. Though not in direct contact with the safir, whose settlements are still far away, their activities have made them and their potentially disruptive influence known to the gestalt, which has begun to try to communicate the situation to the safir.
